Local Artisanal Cheese

The Piggy Market has one of Ottawa's only dedicated local cheese coolers. Every cheese we carry comes from either Ontario or Quebec, and encompasses cow, sheep, and goat milk cheeses.

The Black River Cheese Company

Black River Cheddars are among the best in Ontario. They are the oldest Cheddar company continously operating as a co-operative, owned and operated by the dairy farmers of Prince Edward County. Started in 1901, they burnt down in 2001, rebuilding to carry on a tradition that has lasted throughout the county's history. Black River delivers to us every other Tuesday, and on that delivery day we get fresh curds made that morning. Our regular selection includes:

Goat Cheddar, Maple Cheddar, Medium Cheddar, Mozzarella, Hot Pepper Mozzarella
Aged Cheddars: 2, 4, and 6 years; 7 year coming soon.

Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Co.

Fifth Town is also a Prince Edward County cheese maker, and is also Canada's only platinum LEED certified green dairy. Producing goat and sheep milk cheeses, all with LFP certified milk (www.localfoodplus.ca). Our cheese rotation from Fifth Town is always changing.

Les Brebis sur le Toit Bleu

Richard and Sylvie approached us about three months after we opened, telling us they had some of the best sheep milk cheese around. This is a small farmstead cheese producer, carrying limited amounts every year. All of their cheese is unpasteurized, but aged the minimum 60 days as per Canadian law. Les Brebis is currently out of stock, and we anxiously await their return to our cooler.
